June 21, 2010, Nuremberg, Germany and New
York, USA - The Energy Sector, Power Distribution Division of Siemens
Aktiengesellschaft (Siemens) together with SCS Info Tech, LLC (SCS), a New
York based company today announced the acquisition by Siemens of QuickStab®
-- a fast and field-proven software that has been successfully used by
utilities in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the United States to perform
real-time and offline stability assessment and monitoring.
"Operating the power system without
knowing its stability limit is risky, especially because this limit is
continuously shifting as system conditions change", said Mr. Gerd
Pollhammer, General Manager, Energy Automation Solutions. "A grid
operator's ability to quickly and accurately estimate the distance from
any operating point to a state where voltages may collapse and units may
lose synchronism is the first step towards preventing blackouts -- and
that's exactly what Siemens can now offer by providing the innovative,
user-friendly, yet technologically advanced
QuickStab seamlessly
integrated with Spectrum PowerTM and as an offline application as well". (read
